Front Porch Fiddle is open!

Hey y’all,

In my last post I told you the story behind what I've been building, and now I’m excited to tell you…

Front Porch Fiddle is now live on Patreon!

Here's what that means in practice:

For $5 a month — the 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗲 tier — you'll get advance access to my Fiddle Repertoire Video Project, in which I'll be working my way through every old-time fiddle tune I know. These aren't tutorials, but there's a lot to learn from watching and listening closely. Each video comes with my notes on the tune's sources, a few reflections, an mp3 download of the tune, and links to related recordings and other resources. Two or more new videos every month, and you'll always see them before they are publicly posted. These videos will form a growing archive that you’ll have access to, and that will be well-organized in collections and by keyword tags. You'll also have basic access to Community Chat.

For $10 a month — the 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗲 tier — you get everything above, plus structured monthly tutorials where I break down a Featured Tune phrase by phrase with close attention to bowing technique, audio-only downloads of the lessons, fiddle tablature, chord charts for when you get together with your rhythm buddies, access to the complete and growing archive, full access to Community Chat, and opportunities to weigh in on member polls.

This is a project I've been working toward for a long time, and if it sounds like something you'd want to be part of, I'd love to have you as a member of Front Porch Fiddle.

And if you know someone who loves old-time fiddle music, I'd be grateful if you'd pass this along. Word of mouth is everything at the beginning.

Thank you kindly for reading these posts--I hope you’ll join me on the Porch!

Warmly,

Kenny

Online Old-Time Fiddle Class Starts on January 18, 2026

Hello, old-time fiddling enthusiasts! I just want to let y’all know that I will be teaching an online course, Traditional Old-Time Fiddling for Beginners and Beyond, starting  Sunday, January 18, 2026, and continuing for the following five Sundays, from 4-5 pm US Eastern Time. It will be available via the Lessonface online learning platform.

This class is designed for advanced beginners and intermediate players. If you have a genuine interest in traditional old-time fiddling, have a grasp of basic instrument skills, and a have modest repertoire of tunes already under your belt, this class will be right for you.

Learning by ear might seem intimidating at first, but trust me, it’s not as hard as you might think! I’ll break down the tunes into short, easy-to-digest phrases. Beyond simply learning the notes, we’ll explore different bowing techniques that will put the fiddle in your fiddling.

By the end of this class, you’ll have added to your repertoire with some wonderful, authentic, and accessible old-time fiddle tunes that I’ve personally learned from studying legendary fiddlers of the past.

Each class session will be held on Zoom via a link provided from Lessonface, and recordings of each session will be posted and always available. Cost is $125 for the six sessions.

Follow the link below for more info and to enroll, and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Come join me in January, and let’s have some old-time fiddling fun!
